Law enforcement officers in Cape Town are busy ensuring that water abusers and transgressors don't get off scot free.
According to director of Law Enforcement Robbie Roberts, they have visited over 806 residents and issued 295 fines to the total of R616 500.
For me, it's not about the fines but about the awareness and getting the information from the public and acting immediately.— Robbie Roberts, Director of Law Enforcement
Roberts says they are still experiencing a problem with car washes and shops selling municipal water.
He says these shops and car washes are fined and closed but they go against the law and set up shop elsewhere the next day.
We are monitoring the transporting of water. Every truck that is transporting water, we stop it and determine the origins of that water.— Robbie Roberts, Director of Law Enforcement
Roberts is appealing to members of the public to keep reporting these shops that sell municipal water even after the law enforcement officers have closed them down.
