After receiving an email from listener claiming to have witnessed a Spar employee removing the 'sell by' sticker on a bag of potatoes, Stephen Grootes asks, have you ever seen anything like this at your local supermarket?
In the email, Twino explains how she watched the shop assistant remove the 'sell by' sticker at Willow Way Spar on Lynnwood Road in Pretoria.
A guy at the fruits section said the sell-by date is so close, yet the potatoes are still fresh and that’s why they have to remove the stickers. I went to the store manager and he claimed ignorance. He called one of the workers in the shop and instructed him to take the potato bags and take them to the back.— Twino, listener
My concern is, how often does this happen?"— Twino, listener
It led Stephen to ask listeners whether they had ever had a similar experience.
Have you come across this before? Sometimes I look at the best before date on a bottle of sealed water, but it is going to stay there for 50 years, you don't have to worry about it, but if you are buying peaches or vegetables it is not quite so obvious.— Stephen Grootes, Drive Time host
