Minister Bheki Cele vows to boost police safety in Ngcobo

Newly appointed Police Minister Bheki Cele attended the memorial service for five officers gunned down in the Ngcobo police attack in the Eastern Cape last week.

Aggrieved community members and senior police officials were all in attendance.

Bereaved family members told EWN reporter Kevin Brandt that they simply want closure.

I spoke to the father of 27-year-old Constable Kuhle Mathetha who said he thought his son would provide for his family and put his younger brother through school.

Bheki Cele stated that he will vehemently fight to secure safety for police officials who are there to protect the community.

It's alleged a church cult was involved in the massacre of the five police officers at the Ngcobo police station.

On Friday, police shot and killed seven men and arrested a further ten in the churchyard.
