Political desk: 'Is Rama-phoria over already?

President Cyril Ramaphosa's recent cabinet reshuffle illustrates that factions remain in the ruling party.

That's according to Senior Research Fellow and Political Economist at Trade Collective Lebohang Pheko who joined Bongani Bingwa on The Political Desk on Wednesday morning.

Pheko says as much as people wanted certain ministers removed from office during the cabinet reshuffle, the fact they remain in cabinet shows there are still people who hold a certain sway in the ANC.

Ramaphosa hasn't been entirely successful with correcting the perceptions around a few of his cabinet members. Most people were expecting Minister Gigaba, Minister Dlamini and so forth to go. And I think again that illustrates, that within the party, there are people who hold a particular sway.

Remember he [Ramaphosa] did not have a decisive victory, it wasn't a landslide victory. There's a saying - keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

Pheko further says Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng's presence reminds us of the importance of constitutionalism.

On Tuesday, Justice Mogoeng implored ministers not to take their oaths to public service lightly.

What is more concerning for me is that we really need to get a clearer sense and a clearer understanding of the politics of reshuffling, redeploying and appointing.
