Clinical psychologist, Hayden Knibbs, explains the different reasons why someone would steal a chocolate a total of 15 times!

Tevain Swart was sentenced to three years imprisonment in the Pretoria High Court.

Speaking to Bongani Bingwa, a clinical psychologist, Hayden Knibbs said psychologists can give an opinion on why Swart kept committing the same crime.

Knibbs said that different reasons would have to be looked at as to whether Swart was stealing because of financial gain or he was stealing because of a psychological issue.

Knibbs said that it was difficult to determine whether a three year sentence would rehabilitate a petty thief as the sentence was extreme.

Depending on what we're talking about, if he's a youngster and it's group dynamics and he's trying to prove a point, whether it's a matter of desperation, whether it's an urge... we will find treatment for that behaviour.
