Concerns have been raised about Sassa's application to extend its contract with Cash Paymaster Services for another six months.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) says it has noted concerns around an application to extend its contract with service provider Cash Paymaster Services.

On Tuesday, Attorney at Women's Legal Centre and Black Sash National Advocacy Manager, Hoodah Abrahams-Fayker said there appears to be no effective plan in place to ensure that millions of beneficiaries receive cash payouts under a new service provider.

The organisation has also been criticised by a panel led by Auditor-General Kimi Makwetu who say it appears Sassa is not viewing this as a priority.

Stephen Grootes spoke to Sassa's Head of Communications Paseka Letsatsi.

We understand why they are worried and I think we have taken a decision to have more interaction with Black Sash. All that we think the AG is saying is guys please pull up your socks.

Paseka Letsatsi, Sassa's Head of Communications

We don't have to be arrogant, we must just take the criticism that comes from the public and we need to make sure that we make sure that everything works according to plan.

Paseka Letsatsi, Sassa's Head of Communications

What we are basically asking for is to ensure there is a smooth phasing in of the post office and phasing out of the current payment contractor. We just want to make sure that things don't fall through the cracks.
