Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo held a briefing to introduce the newly appointed evidence leader and head of investigation for the state capture commission of inquiry scheduled to take place soon.
Deputy Justice did not identify all the investigators at this stage, however said there will be a large team of investigators.
Speaking to Stephen Grootes, EWN reporter Barry Batemen, who attended the briefing said the Chief Justice announced a formidable leading team.
I think the big one being announced there is the former auditor general Terence Nombembe as head of investigation. If you just look at the allegations that have to be investigated here...talking about corruption on a grand scale... this is somebody who is used to having a look at the books of large government departments, he understands how their finances work. From a strategic appointment, it probably doesn't get better than that.— Barry Batemen, EWN Reporter
If somebody is going to cook the books, this is the person who you want to come in and a look at them to establish if there is anything wrong, so that is the big announcement, Terence Nombembe leading up the team of investigators.— Barry Batemen, EWN Reporter
There is also a team of lawyers who will be led by Advocate Paul Pretorius SE, who is an acting judge, a panel member of the South African law commission working group on mediation and also included in that team Advocate Vincent Maleka, senior council.
We are looking at a really top class senior council that have been pulled together to lead the process of investigating state capture.— Barry Batemen, EWN Reporter
