How to rock at LinkedIn job applications (and social media, in general)

First impressions count. The first thing you see is a photograph… Put a professional one up! Don’t put one up with a python wrapped around your neck… Put some effort into it… Spend R300, R400 or R500…

In your bio… write what you can offer [rather than what you want]…

Pavlo Phitidis, Aurik Business Accelerator

Pavlo Phitidis, regular presenter of a feature on small businesses (and founder of Aurik Business Accelerator), has during the last month been employing people to fill 13 positions in his business.

Phitidis had an influx of international and local “partners” approaching him to “collaborate” in developing “opportunities” together.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Phitidis.

Phitidis discussed the dos and don’ts of LinkedIn job applications specifically.

He also touched on social media profiling in general, and three approaches to getting it right, or wrong.

For more detail; listen to the interview in the audio below (and/or scroll down for more quotes from it).

I was amazed at how wrongly it [LinkedIn] is used…

The kinds of stuff you are posting… you should have activity on LinkedIn… post insights into [your industry]…

Pavlo Phitidis, Aurik Business Accelerator

The whole issue of collaboration… You’ve got to understand who you are collaborating with… You’ve got to consider the models of collaboration…

Pavlo Phitidis, Aurik Business Accelerator

Just because it’s part of LinkedIn… don’t think what you read on the profile is accurate… ask for a written CV, and a covering note… You need to independently corroborate what’s on there… There’s a lot of fake and omitted stuff…

Pavlo Phitidis, Aurik Business Accelerator

We had 468 applications… you can’t sit through that… So, your method of recruitment has to be canny…
