CoCT announces new measures to deal with reckless taxi drivers

Director of Law Enforcement for the City of Cape Town, Robbie Roberts has made a commitment to introduce extra measures for dealing with reckless taxi drivers.

Roberts admits to receiving countless, daily complaints about the conduct of taxi drivers on the city's road.

He says he is in communication with relevant authorities to deploy addition enforcement on the roads during peak hours.

Two weeks ago I approached my traffic chief and I indicated to him that I am really not happy with our operations approach, specifically during peak hours.

We are really looking into this and if the public can come up with ideas on how to deal with this we would welcome that.

We are on the N2 on a daily basis, and if you can look at our fines and impoundings, there is proof that we are doing job, but clearly our approach needs to be adapted.
