Is the IPP delay just putting off the inevitable? Analyst answers

There is some confusion on whether or not there was a court interdict preventing the signing of 27 independent power producer contracts with private sector companies by the department of energy.

National Union of Metal Workers (NUM) says there was an interdict, but Minister Jeff Radebe says there wasn't, and government did not sign the contracts of their own accord.

Is there any validity to the metal worker's claim that these 27 independent power producers agreements, if signed will diminish the coal industry, thus seeing the loss of 30 thousand jobs?

Speaking to John Maytham, Chris Yelland from EE Publishers says the coal mining sector globally, and not only in South Africa, is in decline.
