Gigaba says claims of R500 000 given to 'girlfriend' is 'absolute rubbish'

Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba has dismissed claims that an arrangement was made in co-operation with SA Intelligence to have R500 000 transferred to his alleged ex-mistress to keep quiet about the affair.

Gigaba described the claims as 'absolute rubbish' when the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Chief Whip Floyd Shivambu posed the question to the minister at the Eskom inquiry.

There is an allegation that is in the public discourse about you having transferred R500 00 to a girlfriend through an intelligence official. Is that the case?

Floyd Shivambu, EFF Chief Whip

That is absolute rubbish. It has got nothing to do with this inquiry.

Malusi Gigaba, Home Affairs Minister

The allegation that you are part of the Gupta stooges who are given money in Dubai to go around spending on girlfriends, that is why I am asking you, did you give your girlfriend R500 000 of cash money that you had generated from the Guptas.

Floyd Shivambu, EFF Chief Whip

These allegations are absolute rubbish. There is no truth to them. No basis to those allegations. It is part of a vilification machinery in which Mr Shivambu is allegedly actively involved.
