'We must not mislead people, create the notion that renewable energy is cheap'

On Monday, the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) and non-profit organisationTransform RSA successfully obtained an urgent court interdict to block Eskom from signing 27 renewable energy contracts, in its efforts to prevent the closure of power plants.

The High Court in Pretoria ordered the energy minister to give an undertaking not to sign agreements with the independent power producers until a full hearing in court.

Stephen Grootes spoke to the president of transform RSA Adil Nchabeleng and Terrence Govender of the South African Renewable Energy Council, to find out more.

Adil Nchabeleng, Transform RSA president

Nchabeleng has denied that his organisation is a front for the Gupta family.

I have no knowledge of the Guptas. I have never met the Guptas personally and from time to time whenever people want to dismiss whatever we have to say in terms of its content reliability, we will always be brushed off as Guptas.

Adil Nchabeleng, President of transform RSA

Instead of looking at the merits of our applications, people start painting us as (such) an organisation...
