Area where cyclist was stabbed to death is crime 'hotspot'

The area in Cape Town in which a man was stabbed to death while riding his bicycle on Tuesday morning is a known 'hotspot'.

The victim, who was in his sixties, was killed while cycling along Brigantine Avenue in Fish Hoek.

Speaking to Kieno Kammes, Robert Vogel of the Pedal Power Association says it's not the first incident in the area.

About ten days ago a lady was robbed of her bicycle, and lots of walkers have been attacked there in recent months.

Vogel says they've also identified other areas in the city where cyclists have been targeted.

The Table View to Cape Town cycle lane in particular. Unfortunately there is an area limited to about one-hundred to two-hundred metres which is a problem area and that deters people from riding the entire route.

Vogel says extra patrols were bought in to the area by the City of Cape Town, but urges cyclist to be vigilant.
