Ramaphosa 'appalled' at death of 5-year-old Viwe Jali, calls for urgent action
President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his dismay at the death of 5-year-old Viwe Jali after she fell into a pit toilet a school in the Eastern Cape.
Jali went missing on Tuesday before her body was found the following day.
This is not the first incident as a civil case brought by the family of 5-year-old Michael Komape, who fell into a pit toilet at Mahlodumela Primary School in Limpopo in 2014, continues.
Komape's death raised great concern and spurred calls to eradicate pit toilets at schools.
Rampahosa has called on Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga to come up with an emergency plan to address challenges around unsafe ablution facilities at schools.
Eyewitness News reporter Lauren Isaacs has more on the story.
