[LISTEN] 'The media is causing me stress with their speculations'- Shabir Shaik

Jacob Zuma's ex-financial advisor Schabir Shaik says he has not been called to testify against him.

Speaking to Bongani Bingwa on the Breakfast show, Shaik dispelled media reports claiming he has been subpoenaed to testify in the trial of the former president.

National Director of Prosecutions Shaun Abrahams announced on Friday that the state will go ahead and pursue corruption charges against Zuma.

The former president faces 18 charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering related to 783 payments from his former adviser Shabir Shaik.

I have been approached by the Hawks as a witness and several such people have been approached, but I have not been subpoenaed by the Hawks, at this point, to appear and that's it.

As I have said, if I'm subpoenaed by a court of law I'm obliged by law to attend the court, failing which I will be in contempt of court.

Shaik says he doesn't know where journalists are getting the information that he has been subpoenaed. He says that the issue has been dealt with by the court and ventilating it in the media is unhelpful.

The media is not helping at all because it's all speculative and it introduces stress in my life that I really dont need at this point in time. I'm really hoping i could be left alone.
