The Land Expropriation Bill: Have YOUR say

What are your thoughts on how the ANC should tackle land expropriation reforms?

Parliament's constitutional review committee has started working on a framework in which South Africans add their voices to the proposals.

The committee held its first meeting on Tuesday evening.

We agreed on the draft program that will see the committee go to all the provinces in the country. The intention is to visit the provinces for about a week so that we allow South Africans to tell us what they think about the changes to section 25.

Vincent Smith, Co-chairperson of Constitutional Review Committee

Smith says they will also be asking for South Africans to submit written comments to the committee.

He says those who made submissions will be invited to Parliament at the end of July, to share their thoughts.

The first question we ask would be, 'Does Section 25 impede land reform, and if it does what changes would you like to see?'

The second one would be, in terms of land reform, what mechanisms as South Africans would you like to see employed in the project of land reform.

The committee has until 30 August to report back to the National Assembly on whether the property clause in the Constitution should be amended or not.
