Cape officials have sent out a warning to the public against Avian Flu at Boulders Beach. An avian vet explains what's at stake.

Cape Town officials have sent out a warning to the public against Avian Flu at Boulders Beach.

Although the flu has low risk to humans it can still spread to domestic poultry.

MEC for Economic Opportunities in the Western Cape Alan Winde says officials are monitoring the situation.

Meanwhile, avian vet Dr Deon de Beer says human should limit their contact with birds as a safety precaution.

Dr de Beer explains that it is crucial for authorities to confine the outbreak as much as possible, to avoid spreading.

The chances [of transmission] are very low. The chances have stayed the same since the outbreak.

The most important thing is to get Avian Flu under control as the virus can migrate.
