Former ANC MP 'happy' to testify in Zuma trial
The state has listed 207 witnesses who will testify in former President Jacob Zuma's corruption trial.
Some witnesses include Patricia de Lille, new SARS boss Mark Kingon, as well as former African National Congress (ANC) MP and Arms Deal activist Andrew Feinstein.
The former president faces 16 charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering related to 783 payments from his former adviser Shabir Shaik.
While he has not been officially informed, Feinstein says he would be happy to testify.
I would actually be delighted to testify, I think it is a huge relief that this matter is finally coming to court and I think that it is going to be a very important trial for South Africa's democracy.Andrew Feinstein, former ANC MP, author and Arms Deal activist
I still contend that the arms deal was really the point at which the ANC and thus the government lost it's moral compass.Andrew Feinstein, former ANC MP, author and Arms Deal activist
Speaking on the kind of evidence he would bring forward, Feinstein says there may be two things on the agenda.
I assume that what they would want me to give evidence about is the proces swithin the standing committee on public account sin parliament of which I was a ranking ANC member and where the whole sort of arms deal thing really broke into the public domain.Andrew Feinstein, former ANC MP, author and Arms Deal activist
I assume they would want to know about the various mechanisms of the ANC in trying to close that down and also I assume they would want to know about my interactions with Jacob Zuma and people around him at that time.Andrew Feinstein, former ANC MP, author and Arms Deal activist
I think when the ANC first started putting pressure on me and my ANC colleagues to stop any investigation into the arms deal, we had Thabo Mbeki's people telling us to stop and being quite abusive about it. Then privately Jacob Zuma would contact me and he was on the other hand encouraging me to continue with the investigation.Andrew Feinstein, former ANC MP, author and Arms Deal activist
Then suddenly a few months later he stopped any contact with me.Andrew Feinstein, former ANC MP, author and Arms Deal activist
