[LISTEN] AIC accuses EFF of racism

As the battle for Nelson Mandela Bay continues, the African Independent Congress (AIC) says it is backing mayor Athol Trollip.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) threatened to remove Trollip as mayor in order to punish the DA for not voting for land expropriation without compensation.

AIC's spokesperson Aubrey Mhlongo Ray White on The Midday Report that this is racism and they won't support it.

The EFF is a party and it's entitled to put its own programmes but looking at they want they say they are putting their motion, we didn't agree with it. We could feel that there is racism in the whole thing.

Aubrey Mhlongo, AIC spokesperson

However, the AIC says they entered into coalition with the ANC in which they were promised a resolution of the Matatiela cross-border issue.

We said let us put up the flag as AIC to the ANC and show the ANC that if they cannot control their members at the lower structures, this is what we are going to do. We are going to make a U-turn. These are the warning signs to the ANC.

Aubrey Mhlongo, AIC spokesperson

Mhlongo further warns that coalitions politics are dangerous and this is a learning curve for everyone.

Meanwhile, EWN reporter Kevin Brandt says the speaker of the Nelson Mandela Bay is angry at the delays and unruly behavior in the council.

The speaker pleaded with the Councillors not to behave but they did not heed the call.

Council proceedings broke down to the extent that the speaker adjourned the meeting saying that Councillors who now want to debate and vote this motion against mayor Trollip as well as the other mayoral committee members, will now have to motivate as to why it should be put back into the agenda.
