R6 million worth of gold stolen from SA mine

There has been a daring military-style heist at the Kalgold Mine in the North West. It has been revealed that more than R6 million worth of unrefined gold was stolen. The isolated mine is part of the Harmony Group and lies on the N18 between Vryberg and Mafikeng.

Speaking to Ray White on The Midday Report, Harmony Gold Group communications manager, Sihle Maake confirms that there an armed intrusion and robbery at their Kalgold plant took place on Tuesday.

The security outside the entrance were ambushed and they were tied up. The intruders then proceeded to the plant and gained access into the smelt house by breaching the security measures.
