Patriotic Alliance denies cautioning ANC over Mandela Bay deputy mayorship

The Patriotic Alliance (PA) has denied reports that it warned the African National Congress (ANC) that should it vote against the party's councillor Marlon Daniels to become the next Nelson Mandela Bay deputy mayor, the party will end its coalition with the ANC in Ekurhuleni.

According to reports, PA leader Gayton McKenzie said: “The deputy mayor position is not a deal-breaker for us, but I want to caution the ANC and tell them, ‘you don’t want to go there’".

Deputy President of the PA Leanne Williams says it simply asked for the ANC's support.

It was not a threat, it was a warning, it was a statement made that because the ANC is our old friend, they should support us in our appointment in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Leanne Williams, Deputy President of the PA
