The funeral of the anti-apartheid struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela is set to take place on Saturday in two events. One in Fourways, and another at Orlando Stadium.
Gauteng government spokesperson, Phumla Williams says all is ready to give Mam'Winnie a dignified send-off.
It's all systems go to give our Mother of the nation a final send-off.— Phumla Williams, Gauteng government spokesperson
She says the first part of the program will be at the home of Madikizela-Mandela in Orlando, starting at 6 am and will then move to Orlando Stadium.
A park-and-ride service will be provided from Nasrec gate 1 and 2 to the stadium for mourners, explains Williams.
We are expecting mourners to be at the stadium seated by 7:30 am. We are expecting buses from North West, Free State, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga.— Phumla Williams, Gauteng government spokesperson
The program is scheduled to start at 9am at the stadium...— Phumla Williams, Gauteng government spokesperson
According to Williams, the program in Fourways is only for special guests and family, but a video link will be streamed live to allow everyone in the stadium to view the ceremony.
The arrangement is that, because of the size of that cemetery, we have agreed to do a video link so that every mourner would be able to view what would be happening at the cemetery.— Phumla Williams, Gauteng government spokesperson
