Technobyte: Tooth sensor helps you watch what you eat

Tech guru Aki Anastasiou speaks to 702/CapeTalk host Africa Melane about the new experimental technology by Google, called Talk to Books.

This tool allows users to ask questions in plain-English sentences to discover relevant information from more than 100 000 books, comprising 600 million sentences.

This is more intuitive and designed in the way we speak English. It is not a traditional search, it uses natural language.

Scientists develop tiny tooth-mounted sensors that can track what you eat.

According to Anastasiou, these miniaturised sensors developed by researchers at the Tufts University School of Engineering, which are still in experimental phase, are looking out for glucose consumption, salt, and alcohol intake.

They then transmit that information via a wireless connection to your phone to analyse whatever you are eating.

If you imagine people who have certain illnesses and you not supposed to eat certain foods - and if you want to monitor your diet ... this sensor will be able to read all kinds of information and send it to your smartphone - even to your doctor.
