R1.8 billion is needed to erect more heritage sites throughout SA

The National Heritage Council has identified the birth place of late struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and the Ludeke Methodist Church where she and Nelson Mandela were married as key heritage assets.

The NHC is planning on building a museum there but is still waiting for funding.

The CEO at National Heritage Council, Advocate Sonwabile Mancotywa says sites that are in the rural areas can be used to generate income for the state.

We conducted a case study in the country and we found that we needed R1.8 billion to turn these sites from abstract spaces to strategic notes.
