Twitterbuzz surrounds Trevor Noah as he dismisses reports of 'dead cousin'

South African comedian Trevor Noah trended locally on Twitter since yesterday, but not quite for the reason we'd typically expect.

The social media current comes after Noah dismissed reports by the Sunday Times which claimed that his alleged family member was brutally killed and buried this past weekend.

The comedian described the article as "crafty journalism" and has denied that the deceased was related to him.

The Sunday Times, as its cover story, reported that Noah's alleged cousin‚ Cebisile Happiness Khoza‚ had passed away. Furthermore, the news source claimed that it was the fourth tragedy to strike women in Noah's family, allegedly leaving his grandmother superstitious.

Several other news outlets ran with the story, re-igniting the conversation around credibility and the use of news sources.

Noah's grandmother denies media reports of 'curse' and 'dead relative':

It has since been reported that Trevor Noah's grandmother, Nomalizo Noah, has denied the media reports that alleged a relative of theirs dead. Noah's grandmother was recorded as saying that the family doesn't know the deceased.

The Sunday Times had claimed that Noah's grandmother believed their family was cursed because of the death, but she has also come out refuting these reports. She spoke to News24:

They don't know each other; we ourselves [as a family] don't know that person...They are just creating stories out of - [nowhere] now they want to use Trevor and I on their front pages? It's silly.
