ANC names its WC election head and says De Lille more than welcome to join party
Former Western Cape Premier Ebrahim Rasool has been announced as the African National Congress (ANC)'s provincial head of elections.
This forms part of the ANC's bid to reclaim the Western Cape after almost a decade of DA leadership.
The party's national Head of Elections Fikile Mbalula on Monday unveiled its 2019 elections strategy, reports EWN's Babalo Ndenze.
Ndenze says there has been a positive response from ANC members to the announcement.
The party, however, refrained from discussing questions about Rasool's future as a possible premier candidate.
Rasool was removed as Western Cape Premier in 2008, replaced by former MP Lynne Brown, before the ANC lost the province.
The ANC lost power in the Western Cape in 2009 and has been playing second fiddle to the growing DA ever since.
Mbalula said the ANC would welcome embattled mayor Patricia de Lille to the party, if the DA were to expel her.
Ndenze adds that the ANC has opted to make a head start in what will arguably be their toughest campaign terrain.
