CFO,HOD and MEC of North West Agriculture Department must be investigated -SACP
The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the North West says the chief financial officer, head of department and MEC of the province's Agriculture Department must be investigated for their role in the alleged gifting of herd of cattle valued at about R1.5 million to former President Jacob Zuma.
The Sunday Times reported that the cattle meant for emerging farmers in the North West was gifted to Jacob Zuma by Premier Supra Mahumapelo.
Both Zuma and Mahumapelo are reportedly being investigated by the Hawks for possible fraud and corruption.
The SACP’s Madoda Sombatha insists the department heads and Mahumapelo must account.
The impression created in the article is that the premier has acted on his own, outside the accountability structures of the department that is why we want to place on record that in that department there is a CFO, HOD and MEC and that acting must be set now on these three for investigation. The MEC must be removed and the two suspended and investigated.Madoda Sombatha, Provincial Secretary of the SACP in the North West
Speaking on the current state of the ANC in the province, Sombatha says issues of factionalism have not subsided.
The National leadership of the ANC is on each occasion being blackmailed, on the basis that when the ANC leadership descended on the North West the second time, hooligans were mobilised to be on standby, this was meant to have resulted in a process where if a decision that would have never satisfied a particular group, those hooligans were going to be unleashed at that moment. This is blackmail.Madoda Sombatha, Provincial Secretary of the SACP in the North West
Meanwhile the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) is supporting a call by the EFF for the Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane to investigate the same allegations and has encouraged the dismissal of MEC for Rural, Environment and Agriculture Development Manketse Tlape for his role in the alleged corruption.
We want visible actions because we have been talking about investigations for quite some time. You will recall eight years ago or if not five, there were investigations conducted by the SIU on local municipalities within the North West and that report has not come out.Paul Sebegoe, SANCO North West Provincial Chair
