Do you need to apply the handbrake when parking a vehicle which is fitted with a torque converter gearbox with a park function?
Azania Mosaka speaks to Technical Editor at CAR Magazine Nicol Louw to find out.
The park function itself is linked to what they call a parking pawl. That is a mechanical lever in the gearbox, that when you actually come to a standstill and select the park function, this lever engages with a ring gear on output shaft on the torque converter actually locking it in place so it cannot turn.— Nicol Louw, Technical Editor at CAR Magazine
