How can seniors make the later years in life matter? Guests share advice on how the elderly can live enriching, meaningful lives.

Growing old has its challenges, but it offers so many opportunities too.

Sage-ing International is a nonprofit organisation that is dedicated to helping elders reclaim their role as leaders by sharing their wisdom and knowledge.

Cape Town resident Grace Smith is the course convener at the University of the Third Age, a learning cooperative for seniors.

Smith has always believed in conscious aging, and living healthy constructive life in the later years.

She discovered the work of Sage-ing International and has been promoting the principle of "age-ing to sage-ing" since.

In order to retain your memory, you have to be able to handle your emotions and stress.

Grace Smith, University of the Third Age

Ultimately you want to develop your own spiritual interaction with yourself, other people and the environment. I see this as the ultimate role for your senior years.

Grace Smith, University of the Third Age

Smith, joined by Gary and Charlotte Carlson of Sage-ing International, share their advice on how elderly people can live enriching lives.

Conscious aging is about living your elder years understanding that there good times and bad times, it's not all one or the other.

Gary Carlson

I have 77 years of life experience and this is absolutely the best time of my life.

Gary Carlson
