The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has announced new regulations to govern the usage of data:
Usage notifications. Service providers must send depletion notifications to consumers when their usage is at 50%, 80% and 100%.
Rollover of data. Service providers must provide an option to consumers to rollover unused data.
Transfer of data. Service providers must provide an option to consumers to transfer data to other users on the same network.
- Out-of-bundle billing. Service providers are no longer allowed to charge out-of-bundle rates when consumers’ data runs out without specific prior consent by the consumer.
