Northbound motorists on the N3 highway heading for the Mooi River toll plaza can start using one lane that has been reopened.
The N3 highway had been closed on both sides following dozens of trucks that were torched on Sunday night in violent protests.
Speaking to Ray White on The Midday Report, N3 Toll Concession commercial manager Con Roux says they are happy with the progress made so far in clearing the road.
Having said that it's open, I must caution that we have a backlog of traffic, in particular, trucks that have been in that backlog as long as 16 hours so it is going to take a while for the backlog to clear.— Con Roux, N3 Toll Concession commercial manager
Roux advises motorists to delay entering the traffic by an hour and call their customer care line for updates.
The road has been damaged by the fire, he says.
The extent of the fire, in particular, one truck that was carrying reams of paper and that's smouldered through the night and into the early hours of the morning, and it has caused extensive damage.— Con Roux, N3 Toll Concession commercial manager
While the rest of the N3 is open, we are cautioning motorists not to make up for lost time by speeding.— Con Roux, N3 Toll Concession commercial manager
