Two sisters survived a pit bull attack after the dog jumped over its owner’s wall and attacked the 11 and 12-year-old girls.
One of the girls suffered huge bite marks to both her legs after the dog tried but failed to grab her by the neck.
Speaking to Kieno Kammies, the girls' mother Natalie (not her real name) said the incident happened late Monday afternoon.
My kids went to the park to play on the field and then when someone came to call us and tell us that my daughters got bitten by a dog on the field. Then my son tried to get them up and I was on my way when they came in our road and I was going crazy out of my mind.— Natalie, Mother of the girls
One of the neighbours, they took my daughters and my mother to the hospital while I was on my way to the police station and calling the Metro police.— Natalie, Mother of the girls
My adopted daughter was bitten on the stomach and my own daughter got bitten on the two legs and chest. My daughter is 11 and the other one is 12.— Natalie, Mother of the girls
Cape of Good Hope SPCA Belinda Abraham says this is an opportunity for the owners of pit bulls to sit up and take notice and actually examine the relationship that they have with their animals.
This isn't the first time we have spoken about it and I fear that its not going to be the last. In a situation like this, the fault lies entirely with the dog owners.— Belinda Abraham, Cape of Good Hope SPCA, spokesperson
