W Cape DA leader Madikizela denies party trying to purge De Lille supporters

Western Cape DA leader and Western Cape Human Settlements MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela talks to Melanie Rice, standing in for John Maytham, on CapeTalk about the state of Cape Town's government, given the current situation around Patricia de Lille ousted from the party and mayorship.

Will De Lille's DA supporters who joined opposition parties outside court on Friday be facing any disciplinary action due to their actions?

Every member of the party joins the party with a very clear understanding of our constitution.

Bonginkosi Madikizela, W Cape DA leader and Western Cape Human Settlements MEC

He says the constitution spells out very clearly the conditions under which someone's membership can be terminated.

One of the clauses he says is 3.5.1.7 states any member of the party who mobilises other members of the party against his or her own party faces possible termination of membership.

We have seen these members on Friday arriving with the ANC and EFF wearing DA T-shirts. They conducted interviews, and surely that cannot be acceptable given the fact that any member of the party does have a platform to raise his or her concerns.

Bonginkosi Madikizela, DA member and Western Cape Human Settlements MEC

The conduct of those members is surely a violation of that particular clause.

He denies that this is a purging of De Lille's supporters.

He says De Lille was ousted because she made public her intentions to leave after she cleared her name.
