Gordhan appoints new interim Transnet board with Popo Molefe at the helm

Former Chairman of Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) Dr Popo Molefe says he is humbled by his appointment as Chairperson of the interim board at Transnet.

Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan revealed the new interim board in a statement on Monday saying the previous board did not demonstrate an ability to deal the alleged corruption and maladministration at the troubled parastatal.

The board comprises of Molefe, Louis Zeuner, Ramasela Ganda, Ursula Fikelepi, Edward Kieswetter and Dimakatso Matshoga.

Molefe says he is confident that the board will be able to carry out its responsibilities.

When the minister appoints directors to the board he has certain expectations, all I can say is as a collective I am sure the board shall endeavour to meet the expectations of the minister. It is too early for me to say what are the key challenges, what we will do. I am sure as we get down to working, we will begin to understand the workings of that organisation and the challenges.
