[LISTEN] Former KZN Hawks boss says he can't prove assassination claims

During the police ministry's budget debate on Tuesday, Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Dianne Kohler-Barnard claimed in parliament on Tuesday that former president Jacob Zuma and other top ANC politicians had taken out a hit on former KwaZulu-Natal Hawks boss Johan Booysen.

Kohler-Barnad named KwaZulu-Natal ANC provincial secretary Super Zuma; KwaZulu-Natal MEC for economic development, and environmental affairs Sihle Zikalala; and former South African Airways board chairperson Dudu Myeni as the alleged co-conspirators.

Karima Brown spoke to Booysen on the Karima Brown Show to find out more.

Booysen says while four people approached some information, he has no proof of the allegations.

As recent as about three weeks to a month ago it was brought to my attention by a very well placed source that there were reservations about myself. I was a bit skeptical in the beginning and then soon after that I was approached by a second source who divulged and gave me more or less the same information. Then when third person came to me and gave me the same information with more detail I then became worried.

Johan Booysen, former KwaZulu-Natal Hawks boss

These are pure allegations at this juncture and I do not have anything substantial to prove these allegations.

Johan Booysen, former KwaZulu-Natal Hawks boss

The sources that have spoken to me are impeccable sources. I trust in their credibility and believe what they tell me, where they get the information from, that is a different story. One of the sources is actually from crime intelligence in Kwazulu- Natal. I am satisfied that the police themselves are aware of it, whether they are acting on it, that is a different matter.

Asked about his safety, Booysen says he has taken the necessary precautions.
