Ghana's Ashanti region a little 'pot of gold'

What do you think of when you think of Ghana?

Lush forests, miles of sandy beaches and a rich history perhaps?

Well, how about a budding economy, growing international business interests and across the board economic investment.

Lee Kasumba has been in Kumasi for Africa Connected with Standard Bank. Meeting with local leaders, she has finding out more about the Ashanti region.

I was fascinated to discover more about the traditional kente cloth. We drove about 50 minutes outside of the town, and when we got there I was fascinated that all the weavers were men! To weave one scarf takes an entire day.

Kasumba says the roads in and around the Kumasi region tend to be quite rough and uneven, but says plans are underway to improve this.

The Mayor of Kumasi has done a deal where Kumasi will be a sister city to a city in China and it's reported that this will help with the development of the roadworks in this particular region.
