'Patients are sleeping on mattresses on the floor'- Tembisa Hospital CEO

Tembisa hospital CEO Dr Lekopane Mogaladi says the efficiency of the hospital has been affected by the change of demographics in the area.

Tembisa township is the second largest township in the country after Soweto.

However, Dr Mogaladi says there were no plans to increase the capacity of the hospital.

There was an increased demand and there was no increase in beds. The interventions by the provincial government with their planning was that they were going to build more areas where patients could be seen.

Dr Mogaladi says an excess number of patients are sleeping on mattresses on the floor.

We are buying foldable beds. Once they are discharged we will fold the beds and put them away so we can have enough space to clean.
