'Suspend Mallett and Botha'- Ministry of Sport
The Minister of Sport is calling for the suspension of Nick Mallett and Naas Botha following an on-air disagreement with fellow presenter Ashwin Willemse at the weekend.
Willemse walked off the set of SuperSport on Saturday evening, saying he refused to be 'patronised' by the former rugby stars who played 'during the apartheid era'.
They must step aside so that a proper investigation can be done.
Vuyo Mhaga, Spokesperson for Sports Minister
Whilst it's not clear what exactly led up to the disagreement, reports suggest Willemse was annoyed at having been referred to as a 'quota player'.
We can't pretend that racism is not a very emotive issue in our country and we don't want divert this project of social cohesion, but it seems that people seem to get away with it.
Vuyo Mhaga, Spokesperson for Sports Minister
Willemse played for the Springboks between 2003 and 2007 and is a recipient of several awards including Player of the Year, Most Promising Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year.
