The Auditor-General has been scathing about the financial performance of the country’s municipalities. He says they have regressed.
Kimi Makwetu released the audit findings of the country’s 257 municipalities at Parliament on Wednesday.
Makwetu said the latest municipal results show that the counsel from his office has at best not been implemented and at worst totally ignored.
Speaking to John Maytham, EWN Reporter Lindsay Dentlinger said the Auditor-General did not mince his words.
The Western Cape has the largest concentration of municipalities with clean audits at 70%. He has noted that the City of Cape Town has regressed in the year under review. She added that the Auditor-General pointed to the North West as being one of the worst provinces when it comes to municipalities being run badly.
