[LISTEN] Tsakane taxi rank shootout NOT down to rivalry

Gauteng MEC for Roads And Transport Ismael Vadi says the situation in Tsakane in Ekurhuleni is 'very serious'.

Four people were killed on Wednesday during a shootout, while six others were injured, eight people were arrested and nine firearms were recovered from the scene.

Speaking to Bongani Bingwa on the Breakfast Show, Vadi says law enforcement officers have been deployed in and around the Tsakane taxi rank.

We have to be mindful and concerned about the safety of our commuters, other drivers and ordinary residents in the township. So we have taken this extraordinary measure.

Vadi says the dispute seems to be an internal fight in the Greater Brakpan taxi association.

This is not a dispute between two rival taxi associations.

Ismael Vadi, Gauteng MEC for Roads And Transport

It is a dispute between members of the organisation and people who have been brought in as illegal operators or unlicensed operators and that seem to have created some kind of tension.
