Quite gruesome details coming out in court… saying that he did use his fingers, she was already dead… it was extremely gruesome, I don’t think we should go further into what he said… In public galleries you could see people were gasping, and crying… it was completely traumatising.— Lauren Isaacs, EWN
Mortimer Saunders has pleaded guilty to murdering 3-year-old Courtney Pieters.
He insists the murder was not premeditated.
Saunders admitted to necrophilia, but denies raping Pieters before killing her.
He also confessed to poisoning the child.
The State refused to accept his admissions.
Pieters' body was found near her home last year after she been missing for several days.
Saunders, who rented a room at the family's Elsies River home, was then taken into custody.
His trial has started in the Western Cape High Court.
