Zille: 106 out of 191 clinics in WC 'passed' the test last year

Western Cape Premier Helen Zille says the quality of healthcare services at public clinics in the province has improved.

The provincial health department uses a measurement tool called the Ideal Clinic, Zille explains.

The tool assesses clinics based on adequate infrastructure, staff, medical supplies, good administrative processes and more.

Zille says that population growth in the Cape, and rise in HIV treatment has created a greater burden on the healthcare system.

She advises that the Western Cape has pioneered largest HIV treatment programme in the world.

We've improved very substantially.

In the 2016/17 year, only 38 clinics out of our 191 clinics met the threshold for what is called an Ideal Clinic.
