[LISTEN] 'I won a car but I'm too young to drive!' - Paxton on life after Idols

She became the youngest female winner of SA Idols last year, and at just 17 years old Paxton Fielies has already achieved more than most young people her age.

The teenager from Bishop Lavis beat off thousands of other hopefuls to secure the Idols crown, beating Mthokozisi Ndaba from KwaZulu-Natal in the live final.

I got the shock of my life! I honestly thought that Mthokozisi was gonna win.

Since winning Paxton has been working on her recently released debut album, This Is Me on which she co-wrote a number of the tracks.

I started getting back into that habit [of writing]. It was very difficult for me, but the record company allowed me that freedom to have a say in everything.

And what of the trappings of fame?

Fielies says she's remained very grounded and hasn't spent a single cent of the R1-million prize money she banked after her win, nor has she been able to enjoy the brand new car she was given!

I've seen it, but I haven't driven it yet because I can't drive and I can't get my licence yet, I'm not 18!
