In this podcast series celebrating Africa, Pan-African restaurateur Chef Coco Reinarhz takes Africa State of Mind presenter Lee Kasumba through Africa’s culinary history. He also tells Lee of how he and his family left Burundi for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and how his global travels influenced his cooking styles.
Chef Coco's conversation with Lee mainly touched on the influence his mother had on his love for food. He adds that her death was a circumstance he had to overcome.
The African Chef says that his mother had one of the most well-known restaurants in Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of the Congo). It was a place where everybody could to experience African cuisine, and Congolese food he says.
My mother wrote a book on Congolese food and recipes which was well documented. Chef Coco says that the book illustrated a variety of diverse Congolese cuisine.
As African’s, we need to take care of family.
