PP overstepped her mandate on Zille tweets: DA
Has Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane stepped over stepped the boundaries again?
On Monday Mkwebane released a report saying Western Cape Premier Helen Zille’s tweet about colonialism violated the Executive Members Ethics Code.
Last year, Zille tweeted: “For those claiming that the legacy of colonialism was only negative, they should look at various aspects of South Africa’s development, such as the judiciary and other infrastructure.”
When one looks at the law that the Public Protector has used to make these rather bizarre findings, and once again you really have to question whether the Public Protector has read and understands the Constitution.John Steenhuisen, DA Parliamentary Chief Whip
Once again she's overstepped that mandate and one would have thought she would have learnt from the Absa Bank Corp.John Steenhuisen, DA Parliamentary Chief Whip
Steenhuisen says the effect of the Public Protector's findings create a convoluted way to police tweets.
She is going to be policing the Twitter streets of public office bearers and I think she is going to find herself extremely busy.John Steenhuisen, DA Parliamentary Chief Whip
