Local businessman sues CoCT for cutting water supply

A Cape Town businessman is taking the City of Cape Town to court over a hefty utility bill that his says has jeopardised his business.

Alexander Penglides is challenging the City of Cape Town after it cut water supply to his Goodwood property last month.

READ: Eskom wants you to pay 19.9% more for electricity… or else!

Speaking to John Maytham, EWN reporter Monique Mortlock who has been following the case, said Penglides had approached the court seeking urgent relief to get his water reconnected.

What the City had done is that they cut water on one of the properties he owns in Goodwood on 30 May, because he had failed to pay these excessive charges.

Monique Mortlock, EWN reporter

The City alleges the water supply was cut after Penglides failed to settle his electricity bill, although he claims the bill was based on the readings of a faulty meter.

The lawyer representing Penglides says although the city has now reconnected the water supply, albeit, with a low-pressure flow, he's continuing with legal action.
