Refusing to tow the line: Meeting between AA and tow-truck operators gets heated

What was meant to be a pledge signing ceremony within the towing industry, turned into a mud-slinging session as sector players refused to sign on Wednesday.

Tow-truck operators accused the Automobile Association of South Africa of trying to unfairly dominate the industry after its attempt to regulate the industry didn't go as planned.

Speaking to John Maytham, Editor of Motor News at Business Day, Mark Smyth said AA CEO Collins Khumalo had called a meeting and wanted to talk about the AA's new Service Charter and transformation within the towing industry.

But then asked towing associations to sign up to the charter without any forewarning.

The associations felt ambushed and things got really heated.
