Willemse will take Supersport to Equality Court over walk-out findings

Ashwin Willemse's legal team has confirmed he’ll be be taking the SuperSport matter involving Naas Botha and Nick Mallet to the Equality Court.

Last month, Willemse walked out of a live SuperSport broadcast accusing his fellow-analysts of 'patronising' him.

On Tuesday, SuperSport released the findings of an investigation by Advocate Vincent Maleka that found there’d been no racism involved. Willemse didn’t take part in that review.

Willemse’s lawyer, Nqobizitha Mlilo says the process was not conducted fairly.

Supersport requested they issue a statement to the effect that no racism was involved, they proceeded to issue that statement without the approval of Ashwin.

In as far as the law is concerned, Ashwin is not an employee of Supersport, he is an independent contractor and therefore he cannot be subjected to a disciplinary hearing or any other form of inquiry.

We told him [Advocate Vincent Maleka] that his process was flawed. We addressed a letter to him recording what our concerns were. You are going to speak to ten people, which version are you going to take as correct and why?

Mlilo says that they are willing to engage SuperSport and find an amicable solution before they take the matter to court.
