Post the ultimate race for humanity, Comrades Marathon yesterday, where just over 22,000 participants tool to racing 'up' from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, covering a distance of more than 87 kilometres; we can only imagine the kind of stiffness comrades must be feeling - albeit post the victory of crossing the finish line.
Some tips from Exercise Physiologist Dr Van Heerden to minimise injury:
· No beer post the race- it apparently makes muscles swell, delaying the recovery
· Take an ice bath post the race
· Take some paracetamol or other pain killer
· No stretching or strengthening until Friday or Saturday
· Eat properly beforehand
Tennis injuries update:
Novak Djokovic seems to be suffering from a hip injury, while Rafael Nadal is getting back into the thick of things - post his wrist and abdominal surgery. Halfway through the tournament, we can only hope that we don't see more injuries creeping in.
