Intimate one-woman play delves into journey of grief

Celebrated South Africa actress Dorothy Ann Gould will take centre stage in the Market Theatre production of The Year of Magical Thinking.

The play is adapted from the memoir by American writer Joan Didion and deals with the themes of grief and how to handle bereavement.

Gould says the production captures the fragility and the mind of a woman who has lost her husband and her child.

She talks about her 50 years working in theatre, the world of the play, and how she prepared herself for the role.

There is her grief, her resilience, her survival instinct and a lot of humour.

The play is directed by Mark Graham Wilson and will run at the Baxter Golden Arrow Studio, from 3 to 28 July, at 7.30pm.

There is an age restriction of 13 years.
